Avinash’s new movie ‘Mrs Scooter’ out now

The wait for the release of Mrs Scooter, an independent movie Avinash has composed music for, is finally over; it is now available for streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video service.

The movie, which has got a 7.5/10 rating on IMDb (11 reviews), was originally supposed to be released in early 2015. In run up to that, its music launch was held in Mumbai in January 2015. At the function, choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan unveiled the film’s first look too.

However, Mrs Scooter ran into rough weather and its plans for a full-fledged release went off track. After a prolonged wait, the movie found home at Amazon’s Prime Video service. Released at the platform on June 1, all Prime Video subscribers can view it for free.

The movie has four songs, all composed by Avinash. One of them, Saiyaan Hue Faraar, is up on Ragasur’s YouTube channel. In the coming days, the other three songs will also be uploaded on the band’s YouTube playlist that features Avinash’s independent movie work. In one of these songs, Avinash himself has performed the lead vocal duties at the behest of the movie’s director, Shiladitya Moulik. Besides composing, arranging, mixing and mastering songs for the film, Avinash has worked on its background score too.

Plot of Mrs Scooter

Mrs Scooter stars National Award-winning actress Anjali Patil in the lead role. The movie begins with a mid-level clerk bringing home two things that are closest to his heart: the woman he’s just married and his new scooter. However, he loses his life in an accident just a day after. From this point, the fortune of his wife as well his scooter nosedives. Soon, the wife and the scooter too are separated. Their trials and tribulations and the happy ending make up the central plot of Mrs Scooter.

Mrs Scooter owes its release on Amazon Prime Video to Bollywood actor Abhay Deol. Its run time is 95 minutes and has been screened at New York Indian Film Festival.

Mrs Scooter is the fourth film for which Avinash has composed music. His previous work includes Shuttlecock Boys, Raag: The Rhythm of Love and The Story of My Life. He was nominated twice for the award of Best Music Director for his work in Raag.

Ragasur releases debut album, ‘Ishaq’

Ragasur’s debut album is out now, available for sale on OK Listen.

The album is titled Ishaq, taking its name after the band’s most recognisable song, Ishaq Hua Hai Mujhe, which was released worldwide by FL Studio as a demo project with its version 11. Another reason behind selecting the name is that Ishaq, or love, is the running theme of the album.

Eight of the 12 tracks talk about different phases of love. Right from puppy love and true love to heartbreak and its aftermath, the songs are arranged in a sequence that takes the listener through the evolution of the love story of a hopeless romantic. Who doesn’t get the girl, but eventually learns to make light of it.

Album art

The album art seeks to pictorially convey the different phases of Ishaq through a simple but cheeky concept.

The band was particular about not wanting an abstract graphic for album art. For, an abstract image is too sophisticated to convey anything at one glance in the thumbnail size. Or even in the standard size, for that matter. Besides, using a complicated, intricate, part-cryptic, part-enigmatic image to depict songs that are simple, straight and fun doesn’t make sense.

Plus, the band wanted an album art that conveyed its brand’s core identity, it being fun, youthful, hip and sexy. And pop! That explains the bubblegum pop-esque colour palette.

Ishaq comprises the following songs, in this order:
1. Khurdura Pyaar
2. Pari
3. Chaahat
4. Ishaq Hua Hai Mujhe
5. Bahaane
6. Jalta Hoon
7. Jhatka
8. Oh Jaaneman
9. The Legend of Kabootar’s Diet
10. Ragasur Theme
11. Awaz
12. Inner Peace

The album can be bought for Rs200. Individual songs are also available for sale. Currently, the songs are available only on OK Listen. In the next couple of weeks, they will be hosted on platforms like iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Saavn, Gaana etc, after which Ragasur.com will put up a webpage with the songs’ buy links.

What next

Ragasur has another dozen-plus original tracks that are almost ready to be released, with only recording of vocals and mixing-mastering remaining. A couple of these are electronica remake of songs from Ishaq. The tranquillity quotient of one unreleased song can give Pari a run for its money. The band will release them in due course.

Spinnin’ Records puts spotlight on Ragasur

International record label Spinnin’ Records has featured Ragasur’s new EDM track Numaaish as its Track of The Week.

Half an hour past noon on Monday, May 8, the Spinnin’ Records website was updated, with the ‘Latest News’ section announcing Ragasur’s distinction.

Agni had uploaded the first cut of the song on Talent Pool–Spinnin’ Records’ platform where aspiring artistes submit their tracks, which then vie for online votes and the attention of the label’s A&R team–more than a month ago. That version rose to the top of the Talent Pool chart and elicited a response from the label.

Starting off with a compliment (“Nice one! We love the arabic vibe of it, and the violin section is awesome!”), the feedback contained a suggestion, to trim a certain part. Excited upon getting a response from the label, the band modified the track as suggested and its new avatar too quickly rose to claim the top spot on the Talent Pool chart.

The folks at Spinnin’ Records gave a thumbs up to the new version and two weeks ago, informed the band that Numaaish would shortly be featured as Track of The Week. Ragasur understands the magnitude of this achievement and is excited that its music drew the attention of A&R folks of the coveted record label.

Limited release

The band has not uploaded Numaaish on any platform other than Spinnin’ Records yet. Its full version is available on the label’s SoundCloud page and Ragasur’s Talent Pool profile (and embedded here).

Before Numaaish, the band had submitted a couple of other demos at Spinnin’ Records Talent Pool, all of which made into top 5 of the chart. One of them happens to be the opening track of Ragasur’s live set. The other is an unreleased piece, whose full version will feature an unexpected collaboration. These demos can be heard at the band’s Talent Pool profile.

Recognition by Spinnin’ Records comes as the latest achievement for Ragasur, which has had its moments when international DJs like Cosmic Gate and Rank1 supported their track and when FL Studio released their songs as demo projects worldwide twice.

Buy links of Ragasur’s music now inactive

All the buy links of Ragasur’s music have now become inactive as the band has terminated its association with its digital distribution partner.

The band posted the following information on its Facebook page on April 21:

Consequently, the iTunes and Hungama links given with the band’s songs on SoundCloud and YouTube have become inactive. Also, the CRBT (caller ring back tune) codes using which one could set Ragasur’s songs as their phone’s caller tune have become inactive.

As mentioned in the Facebook post, the band plans to re-release its music soon. The album will have 12 songs and includes three new tracks. The album will be called Ishaq, named after the band’s lead single and their first track, Ishaq (Hua Hai Mujhe), which was released worldwide as a demo project with FL Studio 11. The band expects to release the the album in another couple of months.

Who’s at no. 4 in Spinnin’ Records Talent Pool? We are!

This is awesome! Our demo has made it to the Top 5 on Spinnin’ Records Talent Pool chart within a week of its submission.

Agni had created a catchy tune with bagpipes at the centre of attraction. Though only 37 seconds long, the demo impressed listeners enough to steadily climb up the chart. Here’s the track’s day-wise ranking:
Day 2: 101
Day 3: 43
Day 5: 20
Day 7: 4

A heartfelt thanks to everybody who voted! Spurred by the encouragement, Agni has already programmed the rest of the track. And it sounds freakin’ amazing. Ummm… Letting you in on a little secret: this track will be the band’s first in English. Oh, it will feature guest vocals by an uber-talented artiste with jaw-dropping vocal abilities. We can safely say that the final product will be nothing like you’ve ever heard from us before. It’s out of this world. (When the track will finally be out, you’ll see it indeed is out of this world. There’s some layers to this expression and it will become apparent only when you listen to the song.)

The hook of the song—not the bagpipes, but the other hook—has been decided upon and it’s this bit that’s elevating the track’s energy to stratospheric level. Thank you, secret collaborator. The lyrics have yet to be penned and this is where the song is stuck currently. Gary has his hands full with rehearsals and managerial duties, so the lyrical work is on the backburner. Just a matter of time before the lyrics are ready and song begins to evolve in all its glory. We’re excited at the prospect of what lies ahead with this song.

Oh, while it was tentatively titled Desi Summer, Agni agrees that the name needs to change. It will find its name once the lyrics are ready.

Want to close this blogpost by sharing this image from our previous blogpost about the demo:

At the time of writing that blogpost, the track was at no. 43 on the chart. We wanted to break into Top 10 and then Top 5. Glad to have directly taken the leap to Top 5! Here’s hoping for a lot more success.

Vote for our track in Spinnin’ Records Talent Pool

Hello, friends! Agni made a new track recently and he uploaded it on Spinnin’ Records Talent Pool section. And we need your support.

Spinnin’ Records is the label that every up and coming EDM artiste aspires to be associated with. A track’s likelihood of being heard by the label’s A&R managers improves as its ranking in the list of submitted demos improves. It’s been less than 72 hours since Agni uploaded the track and it has already broken into Top 50. After Day 1, the track had climbed up to the sweet spot of rank 101. The next day, it reached rank 43.

How to vote

We are happy, grateful and excited. And ambitious. Help us break into Top 10 by voting for the track. You will need to be logged in to Facebook to cast your vote. Click here to go to the track’s page and click on the ‘vote’ button. Simple.

About the demo

The track, tentatively titled Desi Summer, opens with Scotland’s beloved bagpipes playing a distinctly Arabic melody. The version you’ll find on the demo page is only 37 seconds long. Many listeners on the Talent Pool page have commented that it’s too good, but too short; they are left wanting for more. Wish granted! Agni says the final version of the track will be about four minutes minutes long, have an ethnic touch and, oh, have vocals, of course.

We’d be most grateful and delighted if you could show your support by taking time out to vote for the track. Let’s take it to Top 10. Once there, we’ll aim for Top 5. But that’s for later. It would be so cool to get noticed by Spinnin’ Records executives!

We’re giving you a ‘Jhatka’ this New Year

Hello, friends! A quick announcement. And a big one at that. Starting January 1, we’ll be releasing a flurry of songs. How many, you may ask. About a dozen.

Until recently, the band was of the view that no song should be released without a proper music video. But that takes much time and effort, particularly for a DIY band like ours. While we have all the resources—material and creative—to make music videos, what we haven’t had enough in 2016 is time. In the monsoon, we had declared we’d be putting out the video of Jalta Hoon. Rains are gone and in a fortnight, winter too will be making its exit, but the said video still needs much work. Since our insistence on music video has been holding back release of many of our songs, we have finally decided to loosen up a little. This means, we’ll start churning out kickass original tracks soon.

It was on January 1, 2015, that Ragasur had released its debut track, Awaz. To mark the second anniversary of the release, the band will be releasing a brand new song on January 1, 2017. The song is called Jhatka and takes a light-hearted look at a loverboy’s heartache. We are excited that after a long time, we’ll be treating our fans to some new music..

We’re expecting that we’ll be in a position to resume work on the music video of Jalta Hoon after a couple of weeks or so. Fingers crossed!

Apart from these two tracks—whose vocals were recorded way back in December 2015—we have at least 10 more songs that are at various stages of completion and will be released over the next few months. Here’s the tracklist:
Jaaun Kahaan
Inner Peace
Ghar Chhod Peechhe
Kaa Karhi Paandu
Ek Tha Raja, Ek Thi Rani (Tentative title)
Khurdura Pyaar (Agnified)
Awaz (Agnified)
Mass Distraction (Tentative title)
(Tentative title)
Introducing Ragasur (Tentative title)

The group is keen to release these songs at the earliest and has high hopes from them. Two of the abovesaid tracks, Awaz and Khurdura Pyaar, have been remade by Agni and sound ubercool. They are a cut above the original. Banjaare boasts of an unorthodox songwriting and intelligent lyrics. Kaa Karhi Paandu is whackier than The Legend of Kabootars’ Diet. The band things each of these songs has high potential and will be lapped up by music-loving masses. With these many new releases slated, Ragasur is excitedly looking forward to 2017.

A dorky remake of ‘Bahaane’

As you must be aware, two of our songs—Ishaq Hua Hai Mujhe and Bahaane—have been released worldwide with FL Studio as demo projects. This means all the individual elements of a song are available to the users of the software in a raw format. They can tweak them they please and come up with their own version of the track. This is the flexibility, the power that comes with a demo project. And with great power, comes great risk. Our these two tracks have been remade a lot. Some versions are good, some so bad that they are good (as in funny) and some outright cringeworthy. In this blogpost, we are ashamed to share one such cringeworthy version of Bahaane. Avinash had the misfortune of discovering this track a few days ago. Gary could hear him exclaiming from the other room. When he got to see the video, his jaw dropped. It’s not the heavily autotuned, wannabe singing that put us off; we’re used to them from the time Ishaq… was made available on FL Studio. It’s this song’s video that makes us go “Come on, dude!” Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the soft porn version of Bahaane:

Introducing old track with new sound (Agnified)

Hey there! Remember this Facebook post of ours?

Agnivesh has given his fiery electronica twist to three tracks the band has already released. Yesterday, he uploaded a sneak-peek of the new instrumentation of one song on Ragasur’s Facebook page. You can check it out here. For our live set, we’ll be using these Agnified versions, so to speak, of these songs, not the original ones.

‘Pari’ nominated for best pop song at RCFA

Ragasur’s minimalistic love song Pari has earned the band a nomination in the Best Pop Artist category for Radio City Freedom Awards 2015.

In each category, such as pop, rock, metal, there are two awards: judges’ choice and popular choice. While the result for judges’ choice will be declared at a grand award ceremony on February 24, online voting will decide who wins the popular choice award. To vote for Ragasur, go to this link, look for the band’s name in the list of nominees and click on the ‘Like’ button. You need to be logged into your Facebook account to vote.

A screening jury shortlisted Pari from among hundreds of entries for the coveted award of the best pop song. As many as nine tracks are in the race for the top prize. Though the shortlist for each category was supposed to have only five contenders, more names were included owing to a tie between the artistes.

Radio City Freedom is an online radio station that promotes music of independent bands in the country. A sister concern of Radio City 91.1 FM, the station has been playing Ragasur’s tracks since January 2016. The third edition of Radio City Freedom Awards carries much hype, given the encouraging response its first two instalments received.

Watch the lyrics video of Pari:

Update: Winners in both the categories (popular choice, judges’ choice) were declared on February 24. While Ragasur didn’t win in either category, the band is excited at making it to the final list of nominees.
